Plan-G was established in September 2008 to expose people (young and old) to IT and computer-related skills and gaming in a relaxed, social environment. These skills include, and are not limited to, basic computer skills, Microsoft Office, A+, N+, networking, basic software installations, hardware configurations and even customising computers by adding additional hardware or software to optimise performance or customise the aesthetic appearance. Teaming up with other regions has given Plan-G the necessary skills required to host and compete in tournaments on a national and international level. These partnerships include Zombie Gamer (in Cape Town), Main Gaming (in Johannesburg) and O-Mania Gaming (in Uitenhage). Plan-G has since strived to be the litmus test in competitive gaming and has become a major role player in the development of eSports both nationally and internationally. Licenses have also been acquired to host various league and tournament qualifiers under the banner of globally recognised events such as the annual eSports World Cup (ESWC) in Paris/France and Black Monster Cup Online. Plan-G is also the only South African organisation to host qualifiers for the Evolution Championship Series of Fighting Games.
eSports is a form of competition that is facilitated by electronic systems, particularly video games; the input of players and teams as well as the output of the eSports system are mediated by human-computer interfaces.[1] Most commonly, eSports take the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between (but not limited to) professional players. The most common video game genres associated with eSports are real-time strategy, fighting, first-person shooter (FPS), and multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA). Tournaments such as The International, the League of Legends World Championship, the Battle.net World Championship Series, the Evolution Championship Series, the Intel Extreme Masters, and the Smite World Championship provide both live broadcasts of the competition, prize money and salaries to competitors.
The rise of eSports has taken the world by storm and one thing is for sure, it will only get bigger. Since late 2018 Plan-G has become more focused on solidifying a comppetitive squad within all disciplines of eSports.
